The Pillar Procedure

Millions of patients snore. Snoring may not be a serious health issue in many cases, however the loss of sleep for the bed partner can be a major cause of distress.

Our doctor performs the Pillar procedure for patients in our region to treat snoring as well as mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The Pillar procedure uses three tiny woven implants -- that have been used in implantable medical devices for over 50 years -- and places them in the soft palate to add structural support. The implants stiffen the soft palate to reduce the vibration that makes the sound of snoring and help reduce soft palate collapse that causes OSA. You will not feel or see these Pillar implants and they do not interfere with speech or swallowing.

What is the Pillar Procedure like?

Our doctor performs the Pillar procedure in our office as a simple, in-office treatment. The procedure generally takes 20 minutes and is highly effective in reducing and/or stopping snoring. Most patients resume activities and normal diet the same day of the procedure.

Clinical studies have shown that approximately 80% of patients showed a reduction in their sleep apnea and 80% bed partner satisfaction has been reported regarding snoring reduction. Many patients experience a significant reduction in snoring intensity as well as daytime sleepiness.
