Balloon Sinuplasty

For most people, chronic sinusitis can be painful. Symptoms for some may be difficult to control with medications. Our doctor performs Balloon Sinuplasty™, a technology designed by Acclarent (a Johnson & Johnson company), to treat patients in our region.

What is Balloon Sinuplasty?

Balloon Sinuplasty is a surgical option that treats chronic sinusitis that has not responded well to antibiotics. This is thought to be less invasive than traditional endoscopic surgery performed with “cutting instruments” and can effectively improve sinusitis symptoms.

Balloon Sinuplasty uses an endoscopic system that includes a small, flexible, sinus balloon catheter to open up blocked sinus passageways thus restoring normal sinus drainage. Blocked sinuses are opened and the integrity of the sinus lining is maintained as the walls of the passageway are widened and restructured when the sinus balloon is inflated.

How do I know if Balloon Sinuplasty is for me?

Before our doctor performs your Balloon Sinuplasty, we’ll discuss your concerns as well as the benefits to determine if this treatment is best for you. As all surgeries include a degree of risk, our doctor will discuss those with you as well.
